Helene Duguay

In 1961 Helene Duguay left her rural New Brunswick home with her bass guitar and determined voice seeking fame and fortune in the bright lights of Montreal.

After gigging around Canada and the States for a year with Marcel Martel, she formed the band Les Beatlettes, an all girl band gaining notoriety with several top ten hits. It was lunch with the Rolling Stones where they arrived in individual stretch limos, a gig at the Montreal Forum backing up The Dave Clarke Five, and a TV show called The Observer with The Beatles. Tragically, on the way to their last show in Canada before heading off to Paris for a major gig at The Olympia, a car crash claimed the lives of two of the girls in the band.

After taking some time off to recover from the loss, her love of music compelled her to continue with her career. She joined Les Planettes, formed by Ben Kaye a well known manager and recent publisher for Celine Dion.

Helene's talent continued to soar with many bands over the years. Her versatility is tremendous, beginning with rockabilly and bebop in the early years, heavy rock though the early seventies with High Voltage, the disco phase in the late seventies, and country in the early eighties. In the nineties she began easing into the common thread through all styles, the blues. Through the blues she delivers her powerful spirit of determination with moving, unforgettable soul.

While still performing locally and abroad, lately Helene has been lending her talented vocals to several artists in various studios around Vancouver. While she's concentrating on writing and recording some originals, audiences are inspired by the many favourite classics they request which are sung, without doubt, directly from her heart.
